Numbers to Know 10/31/24

Here are 3 numbers that are driving conversations amongst policymakers, legislators, and lobbyists in Florida's Capital City.

With the November election approaching in five days, understanding the key trends in voter preferences and behavior in Florida is crucial for our clients. A national poll by the Florida Atlantic University Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab (PolCom Lab) and Mainstreet Research USA reveals voter preferences as of October.

Given Florida’s proposed constitutional amendment requirement of a 60% majority vote for any legislation to pass, these polling statistics emphasize the momentum and challenges the ballot amendments may face. Amendment 3, which supports the legalization of marijuana, is reported to have a solid 60% of Floridian voters in favor. This potential for the passing of Amendment 3 would signify an evolving perspective among Floridians and, according to supporters, open new avenues for economic revenue and regulatory frameworks within the state.

With reproductive rights increasingly driving policy discussions, Amendment 4 represents a critical issue for many Florida voters. Although it holds substantial support at 58%, it remains just below the 60% threshold required to pass. If passed, Amendment 4 would ensure protections for abortion access up to fetal viability or when medically necessary, reflecting ongoing public interest and debate over reproductive health rights.

Floridian voters are also beginning to show a strong preference for early in-person voting, at 51%. In contrast, preference for mail-in ballots stands at 21%, and on election day, standing at 18%. This trend could influence future discussions around election resources and accessibility to better support voter turnout and engagement.

With five days left before Election Day, understanding and adapting to these voter preference trends is important for our clients. It provides a strategic advantage in understanding Florida voters' priorities and offers a roadmap for adapting to the state's dynamic policy environment.
