Here are 3 numbers that are driving conversations amongst policymakers, legislators, and lobbyists in Florida's Capital City.
Following the provisions of the Affordable Care Act that went into effect before 2019, many states continue to see progress in health insurance coverage rates for all age groups between 2019 and 2023. Health insurance policies affect the availability and affordability of health coverage for constituents at the federal and state levels. Between 2019 and 2023, uninsured rates dropped for children in 17 states, for working-age adults in 42 states, and in Florida for adults aged 65 and older. Despite the drop in uninsured rates across the board, most public health programs primarily focus on children, older adults, and those in need. As a result, the uninsured rate for adults ages 19 to 64 is higher.
As health insurance coverage rates continue to shift, staying informed on these trends will be essential for policymakers to consider how to implement effective policy interventions that ensure all age groups have access to affordable and comprehensive health insurance.
